Why Use Soil Conditioner?
Soil conditioner is a handy and essential product to keep in your shed, ready to apply to your lawn as needed. It positively impacts day-to-day gardening by making the most of what’s already there, improving the structure and properties of your soil.
Our premium soil conditioner is made from naturally composted organic matter. It’s screen to 0-10mm, making it a finely graded soil improver, as well as being an environmentally friendly landscaping product. The high organic content helps to improve the soil’s properties, while the increased quantity of phosphate and potassium aids root development. Finally, by adding slow-release nutrients, the soil can be naturally composted to destroy any weed seeds.

Using soil conditioner is a quick and simple process which makes a massive difference to the long-term health of your lawn and garden.
With George Davies Turf & Stone, the product is only half the story. The delivery is just as important.
For soil conditioner orders, we will provide a nominated dispatch day and a time slot for your delivery. Our friendly drivers will let you know when they’re on route and use lorry-mounted forklift trucks to place your soil conditioner bag(s) exactly where you want them (within reason) – gravel drives, long, narrow tracks and rear garden deliveries are not a problem.
Our forklift trucks measure 2.6 metres wide and weigh 2.5 tonnes empty, which we consider when reviewing delivery options. They are also all-terrain trucks and can handle any location (subject to customer agreement). High fences, unfortunately, cause a few problems as we can’t climb over them. But we will always endeavour to find the best solution.
If you would like the bags to be split, so the soil conditioner is left in a pile or scattered around a particular area, we will accommodate this as much as possible, as long as access is good and you have a sharp knife available.
As turf specialists, we understand that great lawns start with great soil. Unlike generic soil improvers, our conditioner is tailored for turf performance, ensuring your lawn gets exactly what it needs to thrive. With years of experience supplying premium turf and lawn care products, we’re trusted by homeowners, landscapers, and sports grounds alike.
Using our local knowledge and expertise, we make sure our customers are looked after from the moment they inquire about a product, through to delivery and beyond, with our aftercare service. We treat every job as if it were our own project, and we want to help you as much as possible. For more information, please get in touch with the team or visit our Turf University.

Soil conditioner is a natural landscaping material specifically formulated to enhance the condition and structure of existing soil. With a mix of organic matter and slow-releasing nutrients, it improves water drainage and retention, aeration, and nutrient absorption, so your turf or plants have everything they need to grow strong, healthy, and resilient.
A great question! Soil conditioner is formulated with organic and garden materials that improve the overall structure, drainage, and aeration of existing soil. This creates a sturdier foundation for root establishment and turf or plant growth. Compost, on the other hand, is made up of decomposed organic matter. This makes it rich in nutrients and microorganisms that help fertilise the soil and feed your turf or plants with essential nutrients.
Adding soil conditioner to your landscaping project or gardening upkeep couldn’t be easier! Add a layer 1-3 inches thick over the area you’re working on. Work this into the top 3-5 inches of existing soil using your hands, a fork, or a hoe, depending on the size of the area. Give it a good water as this will help release the nutrients.
All soils can benefit from a soil conditioner, as it is designed to correct soil deficiencies such as poor soil structure, low nutrient levels, or slow growth. However, sandy soil and clay soil are common soil types to use soil conditioner:
