In this straightforward guide, our stone experts share the 10 key steps to help you lay Hammerstone Grey Porcelain correctly and achieve a professional finish.
1. Measure the area
Measure the length and width of the area you are paving to calculate how many slabs and materials you’ll need.
2. Mark out the area
Use string lines or markers to outline the space clearly. Remove all turf, weeds, roots, and loose debris.
3. Check the drainage
Dig to the correct depth and ensure the area has a suitable fall so water drains away properly.
4. Lay your sub-base
Install and compact a strong sub-base to create a stable foundation for your porcelain paving.
5. Add your mortar bed
Lay a full mortar bed to support each slab and help prevent movement or cracking over time.
6. Apply primer to the back of each slab
Because porcelain is non-porous, a primer slurry helps create a strong bond between the slab and the mortar bed.
7. Lay the slabs
Place each slab carefully onto the mortar and tap gently into place with a rubber mallet. Use a spirit level and spacers to keep everything even and consistent.
8. Fill the joints
Once the slabs are down, fill the joints with a suitable paving compound to achieve a neat, secure finish.
9. Allow the paving to set
Leave the paving to settle properly before walking on it or putting it into full use.
10. For the best results, porcelain paving should always be laid on a strong, even base with a full mortar bed and primer.
