Compost donation to Fernie Fields Sports and Social Club

In the heart of Northampton, nestled between quaint houses and bustling streets, lay Fernie Fields Sport and Social Club in Northampton Sport4Fitness CIC, a community space that has been supporting children and young people with special needs and/or a disability for eight years as well as working with home educated children, young carers and their families.  

The club offers a wide range of activities – from multi sports sessions to team building sessions, birthday parties and a gardening club for the whole family. 

In October 2023, George Davies Turf was contacted by one of their landscapers who personally volunteers at the centre and was looking for support from local businesses. After finding out more about the brilliant work they do, the GDT team were keen to offer their services and offered to donate a pallet of compost for their gardening club.  

Steve Rockall, Director and Volunteer at Fernie Fields said, “We have a thriving gardening club and all those involved in gardening activities were delighted to receive a donation of many bags of compost from George Davis Turf. Following a successful 2023 we are now able to commence our planting and growing activities ready for 2024.  

We have planted our winter vegetables including Brussel sprouts and cabbage, have potatoes in our poly tunnel which we hope will be ready for Christmas and are trying Winter carrots again in our poly tunnel. We are planning how best to use the compost early into the new year.” 

George Davies said, “Compost is the lifeblood of a thriving garden and we understand the joy that comes from being able to harvest and eat something you have grown yourself. To know that we have been able to contribute to such a worthwhile cause and to a passionate community of individuals from all ages and backgrounds feels great and we look forward to hearing more about their planting activities in 2024.”
