Our Shade-Tolerant Turf is the best turf for shady areas where you want to grow healthy, lush, and green grass. It is specially grown and cultivated using shade-loving grass species for a consistent, beautiful appearance in low-light conditions.
Just looking for the shady seed? Take me to the Shady Seed
George Davies Shade-Tolerant Turf is specially cultivated using a mix of our Trident Turf and shade-friendly grass varieties to thrive in low-light conditions.
With a medium texture and low-maintenance requirements, this turf delivers a lush, healthy lawn even in areas with limited sunlight.
The high shoot density provides durability, making it suitable for areas with high traffic. Don't worry if you do notice wear and tear, though, because this turf is self-repairing. Thanks to its stoloniferous (creeping) growth, the turf spreads sideways, naturally covering gaps and creating a thicker, more even lawn.
It's even good at outcompeting weeds by reducing the space and sunlight available for them to take hold.
Its deep root system even makes this turf drought-tolerant and can withstand periods of extended dryness.
You won’t find a more versatile turf.

Due to its hard-wearing properties, our Shade-Tolerant Turf is suitable for municipal gardens, shaded landscapes and lawns, all recreational areas, golf tees and racecourses.
Adding to its impressive features, Shade-Tolerant Turf has a beautiful, dark green colour that adds contrast to any landscape design while keeping a traditional lawn look.
As long as it's well maintained, our Shade-Tolerant Turf is impassive to climate change. It can withstand extreme heat or cold, droughts and heavy rains without losing its visual appeal.

Product is only half the story at George Davies; delivery and after-care are just as important. We want every single customer to feel looked after right from their very first contact with us.
We service the Bedford and St. Albans surrounding areas, with depots located in Olney and St. Albans that allow us to offer a prompt and efficient delivery service.
Each delivery of our Shade-Tolerant Turf rolls is made on rigid trucks mounted with forklifts, allowing us to place your products exactly (within reason) where they suit you. Long, narrow tracks and gravel driveways are not a problem.
We can place bags around the back of your home, and all we ask is for 9 ft x 9 ft access to enable the forklifts to get through easily.
Our skilled drivers are highly trained and cool under pressure. If you have any limitations, please tell us at the point of order or add notes to your online order.
Trust us when we say our drivers truly make difficult deliveries easy.
Please head to our turf calculator to determine exactly how much turf you’ll need for your outdoor space. Unsure how to measure your lawn? Our blog, ‘How Do I Measure My Lawn,’ can help.
While it is drought-tolerant once established, regular watering is essential, especially under trees where it competes with roots for moisture.
You should lay your Shade-Tolerant Turf on the same day it’s delivered, or within 24 hours at the latest, to prevent it from losing its freshness and optimum root health.
If you can’t lay it straight away, you should store the turf in a shaded, cool spot. Unroll a few strips to release heat, and water it lightly to prevent it from drying out.
Although we don’t offer turf laying services, installing your own turf is a breeze with our specialist guidance.
Find out how to lay turf with our comprehensive, user-friendly video by George Davies himself, or even how to measure your garden before placing your order! You can also head to our blog post to learn more about best practices for turf laying!
Overall, we recommend waiting up to 3 weeks before enjoying your new turf. We have plenty of information about walking on your turf or over on our YouTube channel.
We understand that you may need to walk on it to reach certain areas of your outdoor space before this time, or even to water it, which is why we suggest walking on it as little as possible, avoiding the same path, and wearing smooth-soled shoes.
No, we don’t use any plastic in our turf, making it 100% plastic-free and environmentally friendly.
Yes! You can pick any day that we have availability to deliver your order. We deliver Monday through Friday.
You can drop your palette off at our depots in Olney or St Albans.
If you don’t want to do that, you can always recycle it at your nearest centre or upcycle the palette however you choose. Perhaps a new garden chair? What about a raised bed?
No! If you have somewhere specific you’d like us to leave your order, let us know in your order notes. You can even leave out a tarpaulin, wheelbarrow, or bin, etc, with a note saying ‘Please leave here.’
