Raj Green sandstone is laid on a compacted sub-base with a mortar bed beneath each slab, with a primer applied to the underside first. Full step by step guidance is in our Installation tab above.
Sealing is not essential, but it is recommended. A good quality sealer such as Azpects EASYSeal SSP helps protect the stone from water, oil and dirt without altering its natural appearance.
Use a wet saw with a diamond blade, or an angle grinder for smaller cuts. Secure the slab firmly and make slow, controlled cuts along your marked line for a clean, stable edge.

Follow these steps to lay your Raj Green Sawn & Honed Paving Slabs:
Step 1: Measure and mark
Measure and mark out the dimensions of your patio for clarity before you start digging.
Step 2: Excavate and prepare
Dig out the patio area to a depth of around 200mm to accommodate the sub-base and mortar, then install a compacted sub-base at least 150mm deep for a sturdy foundation.
Step 3: Create the mortar bed
Mix sharp sand and cement to form a mortar bed approximately 25mm thick.
Step 4: Prime and position the slabs
Apply a primer such as Azpects EasyPrime to the underside of each slab in a layer of at least 2mm, using a trowel or roller for even coverage. Gently place each slab onto the mortar bed and tap into position with a rubber mallet, checking level and alignment with a spirit level and keeping consistent joint spacing throughout.
Step 5: Cure and joint
Allow the mortar bed to cure for at least 24 hours, then fill the joints between the slabs with a jointing compound for a finished look.
Step 6: Seal and maintain
Once fully cured, apply a stone sealer such as Azpects EASYSeal SSP for long term protection against water, oil and dirt without altering the stone’s natural appearance. Clean regularly with a mild, non-acidic detergent and a soft brush, and check the jointing periodically for any cracks.
