Ornamental bark in a 60 litre handy bag, ready for beds, borders and smaller landscaping jobs.
Our Ornamental Bark 60lt Handy Bag gives you the same premium pine bark we supply in bulk, just in a size you can lift, carry and store yourself. Each bag holds 60 litres and weighs around 16kg, so you can barrow it straight to the border and crack on. It is the sensible choice when a bulk bag would be far too much. Homeowners reach for handy bags to smarten up beds, borders and the ground around shrubs, while landscapers keep a few on the van for finishing touches and top ups on site.
Each 60 litre bag covers 2.36m² at a 25mm depth. Spread it deeper and you cover less ground, so a decorative 50mm layer works out at roughly 1.18m² per bag, and a full 100mm weed suppressing layer at around 0.6m². Not sure how many you need? Measure your area, settle on a depth, then pop the figures into our bark calculator and let it do the maths for you.
For over 25 years we have supplied landscaping materials to homeowners and professionals across Olney, Bedford, St. Albans and the wider Home Counties. Order your ornamental bark from us and you also get:

One handy bag covers 2.36m² at a 25mm depth. The deeper you go, the less ground each bag covers, so a 50mm decorative layer gives you roughly 1.18m² and a 100mm weed suppressing layer around 0.6m².
Measure the length and width of the area you are covering, decide on your depth, then put the figures into our bark calculator. As a rough guide, a 10m² border at 50mm depth needs around 9 bags. Covering a much larger area? A bulk bag usually works out better.
It depends what you want it to do. For a decorative finish on flowerbeds or pathways, 50mm to 75mm is plenty. If you are laying bark mainly to keep weeds down, go for a thicker layer of around 100mm.
Yes. Ornamental bark is a natural timber product and is soft underfoot, which is why it is often used around play areas as well as in beds and borders.
Expect it to stay put and looking good for 12 to 24 months. After that it will have naturally broken down into the soil, and a fresh top up will bring the colour back.
You do not have to, but it helps. A membrane under the bark stops persistent weeds pushing through and means your bark stays cleaner for longer.
Yes. Handy bags are easy to load into a car boot or van, so you are welcome to collect from our Olney or St. Albans depots. Give us a ring first so we can have them ready for you.
Laying ornamental bark is one of the quickest ways to smarten up a garden, and handy bags make it even easier because you can work one area at a time without wrestling a bulk bag around.
