Our Black Limestone Cobble Setts are beautifully tumbled and calibrated to 50mm. Available in a deep black shade, they create a bold statement within any garden or communal space. Their striking colour suits contemporary garden styles, while their durability and load-bearing strength make them extremely versatile across several landscaping tasks.
Black Limestone Cobbles from George Davies Turf & Stone are natural limestone cobble setts, handcut and tumbled to give a beautifully rounded, traditional appearance with a deep, rich black colour. Available in 100x100mm and 200x100mm face sizes, calibrated to a consistent 50mm depth, they make a bold visual statement in any garden or landscaping scheme. Use them on driveways, paths, feature panels, courtyard detailing, edging courses, and border work wherever you want genuine impact from your surface material.
The tumbling process gives each cobble softened, naturally worn edges that replicate the look of traditional reclaimed setts without the inconsistency. The deep black colour, with subtle charcoal and dark grey undertones typical of natural limestone, creates striking contrast against light paving slabs, pale gravel, or green planting. These cobbles work particularly well in modern, contemporary, and minimalist garden schemes, but suit accent detailing in more traditional layouts too.
Black limestone cobbles have become a staple of contemporary landscaping because the deep colour and rounded tumbled edges give a level of visual impact that lighter materials simply cannot match. They pair well as a contrasting border detail around pale porcelain or sandstone paving, as a full-surface treatment on a path or courtyard, or as a feature panel set into a larger paved area. The rich black colour also works well with dark timber, steel edging, and architectural planting, the materials most commonly found in modern garden design. Both the 100x100mm and 200x100mm cobbles share the same black limestone material, tumbled finish, and calibrated 50mm depth, so they can be used alongside each other on the same project. The 100x100mm is particularly well suited to edging courses, border details, and tighter decorative work. The 200x100mm suits larger surface areas and herringbone driveways, where its two-to-one ratio makes setting out straightforward. If you're looking to use both sizes together, get in touch and our team can help with quantities and laying advice.
Coverage depends on the face size you choose:
| Size | Coverage per m² (approx.) | Price per cobble (from) |
|---|---|---|
| 100x100mm | approx. 100 cobbles per m² | £0.65 |
| 200x100mm | approx. 50 cobbles per m² | £0.83 |
Always add at least 10% to your order for wastage and cutting, more if you are laying herringbone or working around curves and edges. Get in touch and our team will help you calculate the right quantity. You will also need MOT Type 1 for the sub-base and a suitable mortar for bedding.
Each delivery is made on rigid trucks mounted with forklifts, allowing us to place your products exactly (within reason) where they suit you. Long, narrow tracks and placing bags around the back of your home along with gravel driveways are not a problem. We just ask for a 9ft-by-9ft access to enable the forklifts to get through with ease.
