With a background in art and design and over 24 years’ of experience in landscaping, Dave Hellewell has been running his successful landscaping business since 2008 and works with clients across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Cambridgeshire.
Dave said, “I made the decision to start my own business after I was made redundant from a large landscaping company in 2007. My passion for the industry first started when I was completing an art and product design course and decided to turn my final project into a landscaping one. After this I completed an NVQ Level 2 and 3 City and Guilds in Amenity Horticulture and Hard Landscaping, got some great experience and am now lucky enough to receive most of my work through recommendations and word of mouth.”
Working in collaboration with Stuart Knight at the Garden design and care centre, much of Dave’s work comes from referrals and he is highly skilled in working to precise garden designs as well as coming up with his own ideas and recommendations for clients.
Since the first time Dave called George Davies Turf after seeing their advert on one of their trucks, Dave has always had a great experience and continues to use many of their products, he said, “The staff have always been really helpful and make the process very easy and not difficult at all.
They are very friendly and great at the yards and if you want any advice they are there to give it. The prices are good, and the quality is the best for the cost, I even use their artificial turf in my own garden. Their service and products are better than anywhere else and their delivery service is also brilliant as they offer a forklift where needed.
A client with a passion for cooking and entertaining was keen to create a new outdoor space which included a cooking area, beautiful new lawn and paving to compliment the internal space and recent kitchen renovation.
A total garden transformation was achieved including hard and soft landscaping which involved clearing the entire space and creating new boundary fences, paving, raised beds, lawn area and timber structures featuring a pergola and covered cooking area.
Ducali taupe porcelain flooring was used with a wood-grained effect which mirrored the internal aesthetics, heritage blend bricks were laid for the walling and rose cottage brick paver created the perimeters. A lush new lawn was created using George Davies Turf and an electrician was brought in to highlight key areas across the garden using sophisticated and subtle lighting.
The client was also keen to produce his own crops, having worked with his parents in their garden and so the raised beds provided the perfect area and size for growing his own fruit and vegetables.
The impressive project has delivered a modern but incredibly functional garden that is perfect for cooking and entertaining whilst providing a relaxing and beautiful space to be enjoyed all through the year.
