Founder Wayne Newton, started the business back in 2010 after working as a civil ground worker on several big building sites in London. He said, “I’d been working as a ‘Ganger’ for some time, running projects, managing a team of 50 people and co-ordinating and supervising work whilst ensuring safety procedures were followed and plant and equipment checks were maintained.
When the recession hit, I decided to take a punt and start my own business and I’ve never looked back. My experience has given me a great deal of technical knowledge and I know a lot about the sub-bases of groundworks and footings and curvings. I love having a blank canvas to work from and designing a garden that has such an impact for my customers – it gives me a real buzz.”
With Wayne’s background and carefully chosen team, they can provide just about any service, from brickwork and fencing, to drainage, machine work and design. They will run the whole project and oversee each stage of the job.
Wayne prides himself on his quality products and his promise to deliver the same high standard to every customer no matter how big or small the job. He has been using George Davies Turf for 14 years and says he does not get the quality or finish of turf from anyone else.
“I have never had any issue, if you want a delivery you just say the date and time its there. Any issues are fixed straight away and if I need to speak to them, they’re easy to get hold of on the phone. I honestly can’t fault them.”
A full garden renovation was required in Northchurch Berkhamsted requiring two levels with built-in benches, steps and paving area.
Working from the bottom up, Wayne and his team had to dig out and level the area before laying the Kandla grey sandstone paving and building in the oak sleepers and benches. Working closely with the owner’s idea, Wayne drew out a design for them which incorporated a functional wall and feature seating area and steps allowing for later planting of shrubs and blooms.
The garden was finished with a large lawn area using high grade Top Soil and Trident Turf from George Davies Turf.
The garden was completely transformed, and whilst new products were used, care was taken to make sure each area was sensitive to the surroundings. The owners were extremely happy with the sleepers and Wayne gave them ideas for plants and bedding to enable them to put their own finishing touches on.
Wayne is passionate about doing what’s right for each garden and considering functionality as well as visual impact. He takes the time to help his customers visualise the end result and consider new ideas and what will suit their garden.
