Project Overview

Boughton’s present owner, Richard Montagu Douglas Scott, the 10th Duke of Buccleuch, was overseeing a gradual restoration of these Grade I-listed grounds, but he had gone a step further, commissioning a new feature to complement the existing scheme. Designed by the landscape architect Kim Wilkie and given the title Orpheus, this new landform in the heart of the historic park was inaugurated on July 29 2009. The turf had to be fast rooting, hard wearing and keep its colour all year round after a brief visit in earlier this year it still looks fantastic and really sets off the Orpheus.

This is a prime example of our business providing an important client with fresh turf exactly when it was wanted and where it was required to enable the product to be laid as quickly as possible and therefore give the turf the best chance of establishing on very steep slopes.

Andrew Mead got an exclusive preview of this outstanding new landform created to complement a rare surviving example of a formal early-18th-century landscape.
