George Davies Turf

With the state of the weather currently being dismal at best, now is definitely the time to be thinking and planning ahead so that as we move into (hopefully) sunnier weather, you can spend more time enjoying your garden and less time working hard in it. Spring is a really good time to get your garden looking great ahead of the warmer summer months so that you can kick back with a beer and enjoy the fruits of your labour, rather than wishing you had done more earlier.

Dry Spells

If you can remember that far back, we had extended bouts of hot, dry weather throughout the summer months last year and lovely as it was, the lack of rainfall played havoc with the ground and garden areas. It’s a good idea to invest in a couple of water butts which collect and store rainwater, which can then be used later in the year when we’re experiencing dry spells. These are inexpensive and can be really effective so it’s definitely worth investing now to save yourself the hassle of trying to rehydrate your garden in the heat, especially when you just want to relax and enjoy your outside space.

Weed Now and Relax Later

Weeds and moss can be very unwelcome additions to your lawn but don’t panic – it’s not the end of the world and there are things that can be done so that these pesky things don’t ruin all your hard work. Lawns that are strong, well fed and well maintained will fare much better against these kinds of issues than those that are not. It’s also much easier to deal with these kinds of issue as they appear, rather than waiting and the issue worsening. You can read our previous blog posts that deal with the issues of weed and moss closely here  but with these types of problems, sooner is always better.

Complete Overhaul?

If you’ve been battling against a tired looking garden for some time now, it may be time to start thinking about a complete overhaul. This doesn’t need to be wildly expensive – simple things such as returfing some or all of your garden can be a really effective solution and encourage new life into your outside space. Sometimes starting from scratch is better than trying to revive existing problem areas. If you don’t already have them, adding flower beds or floral areas are can be a good injection of colour and life. Some time ago we wrote about the Living Roof which if time, space and budget allow, can be a very welcome addition to your garden.

The bottom line is that putting in the work now will really save you time later down the line and allow you to enjoy your outside space when the weather allows. If you do decide that your garden needs a spruce up this year in the form of some new turf, or any of the other products we sell then please do not hesitate to give our friendly team a call.
