How Does Soil Conditioner Work?

For struggling soil, our GDT’s soil conditioner can work wonders to revive it. Adding in this soil improver helps strengthen your soil’s structure in regard to how it holds itself together, aiding water absorption and drainage, and movement of oxygen. Soil conditioners correct the ‘imperfections’ in your soil to provide better quality and a more reliable bed for growing.

Using Soil Conditioner Effectively

Start by digging over the area of soil that needs some TLC. Add a layer of conditioner and mix it in to a depth of around 200mm using a spade or fork. Be mindful not to dig up any established roots and allow it to settle in. Our soil conditioner also makes a fantastic mulch for flowerbeds and borders. Worms and insects naturally embed the soil conditioner further into the soil.

George Davies Turf sources one of the best Soil Conditioners in the Country, we have it screened to 0 – 10 mm, bagged and delivered to our yards in Olney and St Albans for distribution. George Davies Turf has spent the last 20 years sourcing and distributing these products under its own name and as such has sold in excess of 5,000 cubic metres in that time.

The soil conditioner is sourced from Norfolk, where our supplier has been processing green waste for the last 25 years and now has the facilities to recycle up to 75,000 tonnes per year. This finely graded soil conditioner is made from naturally composted organic matter and is an environmentally friendly product. The product helps to improve the soil’s properties adding slow release nutrients and has been naturally composted to destroy any weed seeds.

For those clay soils, or allotments where the soil is poor, our Soil Conditioner is a wonderful product aiding drainage, reducing compaction, improving water retention and increasing the worm population of the soil, which all help with Ultimately enhancing the soil properties and therefore unlocking the potential for growing even more vegetables or flowers.

The compost material gives the soil a higher organic matter content and also adds a larger quantity of Phosphate and Potassium which is essential for root development.

With George Davies Turf, the product is only half the story, we feel the delivery of that product is just as important. Using our knowledge, we believe we have the formula that makes for an experience where you feel looked after from the moment you enquire about our products, through to taking delivery and beyond that with our aftercare service. We treat every job as if it is our own project and we want to help you as much as possible, giving you a nominated dispatch day and a time slot for your delivery.

We also deliver our products with lorry mounted forklift trucks, this way we are able to place the bags exactly (within reason) where you want them to be. This means gravel drives, long narrow tracks and putting the bags around the back of the house is not a problem. The only limitation is the width of the track, the forklift trucks are 2.6 metres wide and weigh two and a half tonnes empty.  They are all terrain trucks and will go nearly anywhere (subject to customer agreement). High fences unfortunately cause a few problems as we can’t lift over them.

We as a company endeavour to try and make your life as easy as possible, and if you would like the bags to be split, so the soil conditioner is left in a pile or dotted around a certain area we will accommodate all we can as long as access is good, and you have a sharp knife.
